About
Growing up I’ve always had a fascination of how things are made and understanding the stages required for creating something new. The idea which becomes a design, which becomes a prototype, which becomes (several) drafts and ends up a real physical object which people can see and use. I became a prop maker to create the uncreatable ideas that transport audiences to alternate worlds and places in time. As cliché as it sounds for a prop maker the original Star Wars Trilogy has always been a major inspiration for me, showcasing the artistry of fabricated sets and props that endures for generations.
From 2018-2021, I studied Prop Making for my Theatre Practice degree at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. At Central, I cherished the sense of community and interdepartmental teamwork that culminates in the pride of a live show. I loved how my prop would be used by an actor, lit by a LX person, managed by an SM and appreciated by audiences every single day.
After graduation I dove into the television and film industry, exploring various creative roles to expand my prop-making skills. While I enhanced my skillset and really got a wider view of the industry I didn’t get the same satisfaction as I did working in theatre. I instead worked in live events creating props, sets and puppets. During this time I ended up touring maintenance with the same company I was making things for so I was again able to get that live feedback and appreciation from people enjoying what I have created.
After a hiatus I ended up where I started back in theatre. Working on the West End has been the pinnacle of my journey so far. Although I am currently touring with Bluey I believe my heart lies in a West End theatre creating, making and maintaining props and puppets.
